What is FTP?
FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol, a protocol that is used to download/upload files from/to file archives available on the Internet. The hosts providing these file archives are called FTP servers.

What is the difference between NAPALM FTP Indexer and other search engines available on the Internet (for example, Google, Yahoo, and so on)?
Most of Internet search engines look through the contents of HTML pages on WWW servers, while NAPALM FTP Indexer looks through the names of files available on FTP servers. If you are searching for the name of a particular file on WWW servers, you will most likely find the description of it rather the file itself. NAPALM FTP Indexer allows you to find an actual file that you can download.

I have found the files I need, but I cannot download them, the link does not work. Why?
None of the file links you can find on this site is located on current server, so this can happen very frequently. There could be several reasons for that:

• These files were recently removed from the server they were located, by the owner of the server or by someone else in the case of public servers.
• The server that contains the files has a limit of maximum number of concurrent users logged in, and the limit has been reached. You can try to download the files later when some users disconnect or better still you should use a download manager that keeps trying to download the file.
• The server where the files are is turned off or is not connected to the Internet at the moment.
• The owner of the server has put a restriction on downloading these files.

Take a look at the date column on search results page, this represents the last time the indexer saw the file on the server, so the more recent, the more probable the file is available to download.

How can I download files from NAPALM FTP Indexer ? Do I need an special program ?
You don't need a special program but it is very recommended. For example if you just click on the file link from your browser you can't see what is happening exactly between you and the FTP server (see previous question). So I would recommend to use a good FTP client that supports queuing or your favorite download manager, when you located the file you want to download just copy the shortcut by right clicking on the link and paste it on your FTP client or whatever, that its.

When I do a search on NAPALM FTP Indexer site I get the following error : "HTTP 1.1 browser complaint is required"
Currently we are accepting requests from HTTP 1.1 browser complaint only, so this error may happen when you try to use the site with a browser that doesn't support HTTP 1.1 or you have the HTTP 1.1 support option turned off. For example, if you use IE 6 you can turn this option on by going to Tools menu, Internet Options, Advanced, on the tag HTTP 1.1 settings, be sure that both options are checked. Also, if you still get this error, you may try disabling any program or module that modify HTTP header requests, this can be ad-blockers, popup-blockers, certain firewalls features, anonymizers, etc.
